Photography Projects to Try on Film

6

We all know how Lomography and other forms of analog photography continue to inspire photographers in all of us. However, there are times when the daily grind gets the better of our artistic side. If you think you're losing your shutter-happy self, here are some interesting photography projects that are worth trying in film.

Project 365

Chances are, you have heard or read about this project somewhere. It involves taking one photo a day, with the goal of documenting a year in your life. People take on this project mainly for practice and to eventually become better at photography. There are many variations of this project, such as 365 Days, where you take self-portraits for a year. Those who think taking daily snapshots is a bit demanding, a project reduced to 52 weeks may be worth trying. If you're up for a challenge, try this project on film, as most people use digital cameras to make things a bit easier. To make things more interesting, don't get your film rolls processed until the end of the project!

A-Z Photo Project

As the project name suggests, this one involves taking photos of objects or places that begin with each letter of the alphabet. There are many ways to do this, such as objects only, places only, names of people, or letter-shaped objects. For letters that can be a bit difficult (like U or Q), one suggestion is to capture something that represents emotions or adjectives, like "unhappy" or "quick".

Words to Shoot By

A bit similar to A-Z, Words to Shoot by is an interesting project where contributors take photos based on an assigned word. It can be anything--a concept, an adjective, a color, a sensation. You can do this project on your own, with your own circle of photographer friends, or as a contributor on the group that started it all.

100 Strangers

This is one of the most popular photography projects for people who like to step out of their comfort zones. In this project, you have to take 100 portraits of people totally unknown to you and ask them to tell something about themselves. If you want to practice portraiture or meet new people and learn about their stories, this project is for you. Definitely challenging but interesting, this project is a true test of photojournalistic skills.
