P-Sharan (Pinhole Camera)

3

A wide angle pinhole camera from a junk box.

The Sharan is a wide-angle pinhole camera you can craft with a package at a price of about 20 €

As an absolutely inexperienced hobbyist, I’ve managed to assemble this with the help of simple instructions in only an hour. All parts are pre-cut and ready-made, including the pinhole. It uses 35mm film, which is really convenient in many ways.

I find it very chic that the perforation of the film is exposed. I have the mask of the camera that determines the image size, trimmed accordingly. With a tie, the pinhole is covered. For the loading of the film, there are two knobs on top of the housing.

There is also a tripod hole if you should require it urgently!

This is also very useful: at the back is a small exposure table printed with the most necessary exposure times. Since the Sharan is made of cardboard, you should not use it in the rain.

Endless panoramas and double exposures are no problem with this pinhole camera, just choose to wind forward — or not. The Sharan has no viewfinder. This can make it difficult to deal with and yet exciting, but also leads to great surprises.

The pinhole diameter is 0.16mm and the “focal length” is 20mm.

I find this camera totally great and really recommend it to anyone!

Brilliant! Some people spend thousands on fancy DSLRs and still can't take as good a picture as a cardboard pinhole camera can! When in doubt, go back to the basics. I'd love to find one of those!
