Rollei Retro (120, 400 iso) user-review

The ONLY film worth using during classic tweed cycling events: I went on a quick hunt for flat caps and tweed jackets and realised that my old Yashica Twin Lens would really fit the Look! and what better film to use than the Rollei Retro 400!

The ONLY film worth using during classic tweed cycling events: I went on a quick hunt for flat caps and tweed jackets and realised that my old Yashica Twin Lens would really fit the Look! and what better film to use than the Rollei Retro 400!

A good friend of mine told me about the London Fixed Gear and Single Speed Bicycle Tweed run that was going to take place. The culture of fixed gear or single speed bikes has been growing fast in London over the last few years. I really wanted to shoot this and was thinking about taking my digital, portable flash and so on. Then i decided I wanted to take part as well and couldn’t face carrying my big SLR and flashes.

I went on a quick hunt for flat caps and tweed jackets and realised that my old Yashica Twin Lens would really fit the Look! and what better film to use than the Rollei retro 400! With the ever-present risk of grey weather in London B&W 400 speed film is always a safe bet. The Rollei produces great tones and contrast and can definitely handle a little over or underexposing. I rated the film at 200 and fount that the film, camera and event fitted together perfectly! Hope you like…

Well done. Your report pics from that cycle thing are charming! Is this Rollei Retro 400s? Or just 400? Witch one is courently in shop.lomogrpahy?

@panpriatel: From the title, this seems to be Rollei Retro 400 which is rebranded Agfa APX 400. Rollei Retro 400s is rebranded Agfa Aviphot 400 which has an extended red sensitivity to 750nm. Which a Hoya R72 filter you obtain the same results as Ilford SFX!
