Wisent

Wisente !!! Weidetiere helfen die Heiden zu erhalten, indem sie die Verbuschung zurückdrängen. In der Altenwalder Heide (Bereich des ehemaligen Truppenübungsplatzes) leisten dies Wisente, Heckrinder und Wildpferde in Großkoppeln. Weitere Heidegebiete werden mit Schafen und Ziegen in Hütehaltung beweidet.

@klawe die Wisente sind enorm und machen schon Eindruck, sind aber scheu und selten zu sehen (..und nur gefährlich, wenn sie Kälber haben!!!!). Ich war ca. 50m entfernt (..und ein Zaun war auch!!!!). Das enorme Wildgehege ist nicht zugänglich. Wilpferde, Auerochsen und Wisente pflegen die Heide auf natürliche Weise, und sollen ja nicht gestört werden..

@cjf thank you!!!!! the bison are enormous and make an impression, but are shy and rarely seen (..and only dangerous when they have calves!!!!). I was about 50m away (..and there was a fence too!!!!). The enormous game reserve is not accessible. Wild horses, aurochs and bison take care of the heath naturally and should not be disturbed.

@nwinther In the spring, the wisent's coat changes from a dense winter coat to a thinner summer coat. you can see in the photo that the bison's thick fur is already partially gone. but even if the wisent only wears a summer t-shirt instead of a thick winter jacket, he's still impressive... .

@steamtug1959 My mum told me about the Musk oxes they had on Greenland, they are smaller....but impressive with the Bisons...love the pictures :)

Von Cuxhaven kommend kurz vor dem Nordseestrand Spieka-Neufeld ist eine Parkbucht, von da startet man am Besten. Um das Gehege sind es ca. gute 2 Stunden. In insgesamt 10 Versuchen in 5 Jahren hatte ich 2 Sichtungen.. .
