Cindy aka cyanwater is well known in the Singapore analogue photography community. She loves analogue so much, she even owns an analogue camera shop herself! She also happens to be a guru with the Spinner 360° and Motorizer, she tells us more!

Name: Cindy Tan
LomoHome: cyanwater
Occupation: Co-owner of an analogue camera store
Website: cyanwater.com

Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is CyanWater? What do you do for a living?
Cyanwater is someone who often hides behind a camera. I’m a simple person who just needs 3Cs in life – camera, coffee and computer. Ok, and cash to process the films. Haha.

I co-own a toy camera shop – Thirtysix and take wedding pictures on a freelance basis for leisure.

When was your first time loading a roll of film and who taught you how to do it?
In art school where I learnt the fundamentals of photography. I sort of slept through the technical bit and shot on the auto mode mostly. Until today, I embrace the idea of “Don’t think, just shoot”.

What was your first camera?
It was a SLR camera that my mum bought me for school. It kept me company like a true friend and gave me wonderful memories when I was studying abroad. I think I’ve too many friends now! Some come and go, and the good ones stay of course.

When did you get married to Lomography?
11 years and loving it! I was seduced by the unique features of Lomography cameras. It’s not an infatuation for sure, but then again, it’s not monogamous. I shoot digital too.

What is Lomography to you?
Lomography is about connecting pictures, people and places; family, friends and fun. Photography can be intrusive to some but Lomography isn’t. It draws smiles especially when you are pointing a strange looking camera at them like the Spinner 360!

Where do you find inspiration for your photography work?
My photography work is personal and never heavily staged. Usually, inspirations come from the subject itself.

Who influences your photography work?
Max Wanger – I love the simplicity of his shots. And I adore Annie Leibovitz. She’s brilliant.

You like to question your viewer in your photograph, why is that? Do you usually have an answer yourself?
I like to intrigue viewers with my pictures. Life is like a mystery. Everyday, we’re trying to find answers to almost everything. I’d like to have my very own book published, titled “Life’s contradictions and unanswered thoughts”. Did I answer your question? No?

From your website: “It’s not just the click of a button, it’s the moment you click the button that makes a photograph”. Does the Spinner Motorizer prolong the “moment you click the button”? What are you thinking in this long moment?
Yes, I’m constantly thinking what I should do next! Haha!

The Spinner doesn’t have a button, what is your quote for the Spinner then?
It’s not just the click of a button, because it has no button!

Have you tried the Spinner Motoriser yet? Please share your experience.

Of course! With the Motorizer's ability to shoot with slow shutter speed, I was able to try out different creative techniques like spinning with infrared film and filters, appearing more than once in same shot at different positions or not at all, capturing the beautiful interior of my favorite shops and more! It was really fun and the possibilities are endless!

The Spinner 360° goes beyond the confines of standard panoramic cameras. See everything around you (literally!), and be swept away by truly spectacular results. Head to our Online Shop and get your own Spinner 360°!
