Newcomer of the Week: elaidia

It was her sweetheart who encouraged her to pursue taking photographs using film cameras. After her first try at using a Fisheye No. 2, she got immediately hooked! Let’s all welcome Elaidia Oliveros, or simply elaidia in our Community, our Newcomer of the Week!

Elaidia Liz V. Olivero aka elaidia

Name: Elaidia Liz V. Oliveros (Liz for short)
LomoHome: elaidia
Location: Manila, Philippines

Please tell us something about yourself.

I am a mass communications graduate who wants to take law. I like to read, travel, and try new things. I’m not really a fan of photography before. I just did it because it was a requirement during my college days. Then, I joined the university photography club and got hooked. We only used digital ones in the club so I started being aware of the technicalities.

My boyfriend then introduced me to film photography. I used a Fisheye No. 2 camera during my first try. I thought that the pictures would come out the way I was expecting it to be but it didn’t. I told my boyfriend I want to try using it again. I never thought that it would be so much fun taking pictures using film cameras!

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

My boyfriend introduced me to the community and he was also the one that convinced me to join. He’s also the one who made my account.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

One of the golden rules that I am applying when taking pictures is the sixth “Don’t think” rule. Before discovering the Community, I usually think of the technicalities before taking a shot, but now when I see something beautiful, I just shoot.

In this digital age, why still film?

I like the colors and the effects that films produce especially when doing double exposures. I fell in love with double exposure the first time my boyfriend showed me one. I also found beauty in making mistakes when taking pictures and making mistakes made me eager to take more pictures and improve myself.

Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment?

My favorite analogue camera would be the Ricoh KR-5 because it was a gift given to me by my boyfriend. It is also my first analogue camera.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

I’m kind of greedy. I really want to have (or at least try) all of the lomography cameras that I do not have yet.

Any Community member you look up to? If so, why him or her?

That would be sandravo. Her LomoHome was the one of the first pages I have seen in the Community. I think her photos are awesome especially the ones with the nature theme.

Share your current favorite Lomograph, could be yours or a friend’s. Why?

I like its grainy effect. I think it is dramatic and looks like an old photograph. There’s also an eerie vibe to the picture but still, I like it.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

I’m looking forward to learning more from other people in the community since I’m a newbie in lomography. I also hope that I could share more pictures to you guys.
