Winter in Vienna: First Impressions of the Lomo'Instant Wide

I’ve been shooting analogue as long as I can remember but it wasn’t until a few months ago that I was introduced to instant photography. So, you can imagine when I was given the chance to try out the recently introduced Lomo’Instant Wide, I “instantly” said yes and hit the streets of Vienna!

Now, when I’m this excited about a new camera, I generally hit a creative roadblock – perfect. And with winter in full bloom, it’s somewhat challenging to produce vibrant and colorful photographs – how convenient. That grey winter light can really dim down your color palette – it just keeps on getting better… But somehow, perhaps by pure magic (or maybe sheer force of will), the photographs this camera produced were not dull, drab or desaturated! I can still find the colors, patterns, and textures that I love to capture in these images. And, well – excuse the pun – but the Lomo'Instant Wide just warmed my heart!

One of my favorite sets of images are these funky abstract photographs. I’ve always loved playing around with a shallow depth of field to the point where an image sort of disintegrates, but the Lomo’Instant took that to a completely different level. Combining the Close Up Lens with the flash made these shots even more spontaneous, creating this beautiful serendipity between large flashes of color and fragments of focused detail.

Whether you’re into street photography, urban landscapes, portraits, abstract or minimal photography, the Lomo’Instant Wide has an abundance of versatile features to experiment with. And what’s even better is that these features are designed to be incredibly easy to use.

I loved that the zone focus allowed me to think fast on my feet; an element that comes in super handy when you’re photographing fast-paced urban settings like the streets of Vienna.

Add that onto the amazing auto exposure setting, and you’re really able to capture those magical moments that might have passed you by!

Conclusion? Is it too late to ask for more presents from Santa? Because I have got to get my own Lomo’Instant Wide!
