I have been wanting to visit this part of my country for a while because it carries much of our Peruvian culture. In this place, there are communities of people still living like how they did centuries ago. A small group of villagers still live on floating islands, made from totora (a plant), in Lake Titicaca itself. It is interesting to see how they live. You can even spend a night on their settlement, which I was unable to do due to lack of time.

Lake Titicaca is located at 3,812 meters (12,507 ft) above sea level so you will most likely suffer from altitude sickness during the first days, as I did, but it is a very enjoyable, colorful place to visit. We went to an Island called Taquile, too. It was a three-hour sailing trip. The people there live in a commune. On your first day, a family would cook for you. Another family will take over the following day. They all take turns on attending to tourists. That way the whole community would have work.
