Hi Sara! Could you tell us how did you get involved with photography? When was the moment you realized you wanted to become a photographer?

Hi! I started taking pictures when I was sixteen, for my birthday my parents gave me the first camera. Initially it was a game, then by the time I realized it could be something more important. After the end of high school I decided to do a photography school in my hometown (Bologna) and there I really knew what it was to be photographers and I fell in love with this world. Now I attend the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and I carry on my passion.

You are only 21 years old and also really successful at what you do. Are you still trying to figure out your photographic style or you managed to establish it early on?

In this last period I think I defined my style, I know what I like and how I would represent him, the ideas are in my head. I decided to use an analog camera, I chose the type of grain, the color and the lens. In the future I will definitely change my mind, maybe improve myself, I’ll buy a medium-format film camera, but at the moment I am convinced of my style.

Your work is also about expressing sexuality. When did you become fascinated with the human body?

Right away I realized that my favorite subject was the human body, I feel the need to tell what they are through photography. I want to tell stories, first of all, all the people I’ve known must be portrayed, I must take pictures of people close to me so in the future I can remember moments and emotions. Then I specialized in the body, sexuality seen from my eyes.

What camera do you use the most? What attracted you to analogue photography?

I Use two cameras an Olympus Om-2 and an Olympus xa2. I started using analogue camera a bit ‘out of curiosity, I knew nothing of the needle, the development. Then I found one in my house and I haven’t stopped more. It ’s all different, first you observe and then you clicks, you do not look a screen, the picture is in your head.

You also enjoy doing self-portraits. Do you feel more relaxed in front of or behind the camera?

I don’t know, I’m very comfortable in front of and behind the camera. When I’m taking photos I’m much less involved emotionally, if I do self-portraits is often to express my unease that only photography can understand and make others understand. I put myself naked, I show myself to others as it is without filters. While behind the camera I also like to compose and create.
