Venice has become a very special place for me. I first came here when when I was just 19, straight after graduating from school. I don’t remember much apart from constantly being lost and a lovely day out on the beach of Lido. I came back many years later, and then again, and again. Now we tend to go at least once a year, preferably twice. We managed to make really good friends among the locals and eventually been invited to a proper Venetian wedding. We arrived on a hot June afternoon and headed straight to Rialto market’s area. There’s a very famous bar called Al Merca that we haven’t managed to visit before.

It is an extremely busy ‘hole in the wall’ type of place, buzzing day and night with locals and tourists that flood Campo Bella Vienna square it is situated on, just off the Rialto market. Apart from the regular choice wine and all sorts of Aperol Spritz and Bellinis, there is an impressive list of natural wines with such heavyweights as Sasha Radikon and Dario Princic on offer. For such a pocket-size establishment the list is truly impressive. We immediately made friends with a lovely French couple and had the most fantastic time ahead of the wedding that took place the next day.
