Legendary: LomoAmigo King Schascha

King Schascha is an eclectic entertainer with a penchant for making funky beats. He's fascinated with the idea of analog media and had a fun and nostalgic time testing out the Lomo'Instant Automat on the road in the UK.

Hello King Schascha! Please introduce yourself to the Lomography community and tell us a bit about what you do.

Greetings everyone! Blessed Love and Give Thanks always! Plain and simple I am an entertainer. At the moment I am one of the frontmen for The English Beat as well as I have my own solo singing project!

Tell us more about your music; what inspires you?

My music is Reggae music, world music actually, it's something there for everyone. I was born in Trinidad where calypso and reggae are norm, so I guess my upbringing inspires me the most!

How was it like shooting with the Lomo'Instant Automat? Have you worked in visual mediums before?

It was funny actually, standing there every time shaking the photos waiting for them to develop. Took me back to the days of being a kid with a Polaroid camera. Visual mediums? Nah, not really....

What was your favorite part of using the camera? Did you carry it everywhere you went? Were there any special experiences (taking photos with fans, shooting while traveling, etc) that stood out to you that you can share?

So I went on a solo tour of U.K. a couple months back, and we did take the camera everywhere. We liked people's reactions to when they realized that it was an instant camera that we were taking pictures with. And the mini pictures compared to the old school bigger version was a hit.

Do you ever work musically in a way that is analog? How might the idea of analog crossover to your own creative process?

Yeah, I actually just put out a vinyl record "Rudeboy Skankin" that I am pretty proud of!

Why is analog important in an ever digital world?

Some people say analog will never die!

If you could travel anywhere in the world and/or photograph anything in history on an instant camera, who or what would that be?

I wanna go to Dubai and get photos of Che Guevara and Bob Marley.

What's next for you, any projects you'd like to tell us about coming up?

At the moment I am working on my next album "The Raw Facts King Schascha and Friends" which features an onslaught of legendary reggae artist like Sizzla, Sister Nancy, Capleton, Luciano, Richie Spice, Anthony B, Lutan Fyah just to name a few! I have a few other things up in the air as well, but who knows where the day will take you ...
