Lydia Trappenberg: Portraits with the Petzval 85 Art Lens

Photographer Lydia Trappenberg has worked for companies such as Thistle Magazine, Stern, and NEON. She has a talent for creating dream-like photos using a mix of film and digital. We lent her the Petzval 85 Art Lens to test out the soft bokeh effect on her wonderful portraits.

Hello, tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m a photographer and all-kinds-of-things maker from Germany. I’ve been based all around the place for the last few years and second to New Zealand, London has always been the kindest place for me, which is also where I got to shoot these photos.

Why did you choose to shoot with the Petzval 85?

I’ve always been a lover of soft-focus imagery with a certain nostalgia and dreamlike quality so the Petzval 85, with its incredibly unique bokeh was surely a lens I just had to try.

What is it you like about the lens?

Apart from its distinct look and the interest in spikes in everyone you pass, its most certainly the bokeh and playing around with the different templates it comes with.

What's coming up for you in the New Year?

I’ve been touring a lot with bands this year so I’m looking forward to focusing on my own work again. Hopefully I will finally make the move into my own place again for a while.
