Emotional Spectrum in Pictures: Gigil

Photography isn't just about the visuals, technicalities or equipment. To be a photographer, you have to capture the unseen and the abstract. And when you do, you grow one step empathetic. Here we review Lomographs that straight out speak of human emotions.

Every once in a while, you will have this feeling that is difficult to control. It's a feeling that evokes when you find someone close to you to be so cute, so adorable, that you can find your hand itching to pinch the cheek as if an infant. This act satisfies you. That's what the Filipino people would call, the feeling of "gigil".

Gigil is quite an interesting emotion that simply refers to the irrational feeling of pinching a person because they are cute. To quote Tagalog Lang:

However, it's not only through pinching is gigil expressed. Among intimates, you can show your gigil by giving them a tight, bear hug, or a big smack on the cheek. It starts like this: your wonderful significant other happens to look cuter than usual today. You take great notice of this heightened cuteness, and soon enough your hand will find its way to their cheek, pinching it. This way, you're communicating that you find them extremely cute -- gigil.

Fair warning, though, do only express your gigil towards your family and friends!
