Laura Allard Fleischl: Springtime with the Lomo'Instant Square Glass

Meet Laura Allard Fleischl, a London based photographer who uses film to capture soft tones and lighting to create sun drenched fashion shoots. We asked he to test out the Lomo'Instant Square Glass, which she took to Allhallows in the Kent countryside.

Hello, tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m a New Zealand born photographer who’s made a home in London for the past 5 years.

What's the appeal of shooting with film?

Aside from the aesthetic quality, I really enjoy the anticipation of waiting until after developing to see the results and the process of scanning the negatives. Of course the gratification is more instant with the Lomo'Instant Square Glass, but there’s still that aspect of knowing that your shot count is limited, every image has to be meaningful.

How did you get on with the Lomo'Instant Square Glass?

I was a little nervous about the focus as I’m not very good at distance estimations, but it was a lot more forgiving than I had anticipated. I was also worried that the design seemed a bit flimsy and I’m notoriously clumsy, but it survived a cross country road trip to the coast and multiple instances of trespassing so those fears turned out to be totally unfounded.

What did you choose to shoot?

I chose to shoot with Olivia out near Allhallows, I hate the city so any opportunity I have to shoot outside it, I jump at. I especially love the tiny towns along the British coast.

Any tips on shooting with this camera?

It really does all the hard work for you so there’s no technical tips I can think to offer, however it captures colour so beautifully, it’s really fun to play with tones in your surroundings and see how they develop. Mostly though, it’s a fun camera, I don’t think it wants to be pretentious or intimidating, so don’t get caught up in the details, just enjoy it.

What's coming up in 2018?

Hopefully lots more road trips to little towns on the coast, and plane trips too, and lots more beautiful sunshiny locations away from the city to photograph.
