News of films being discontinued is like a blow to the gut for film photography enthusiasts. Imagine your favorite film vanishing from the shelves, with only your previous prints for you to remember it by — that’s just rough. It’s a hard pill to swallow but you just have to take it and hope for the best.

That’s why news of Fujifilm considering to bring back their black and white films is a joy to hear. It doesn’t offer any guarantee but the mere fact that the film manufacturer is looking at ways to “revive” their black and white film line is music to any analogue lover’s ears.

According to a report from Japan-based agency ITmedia, Fujifilm has just started examination and is yet to address the problems in material acquisition for their black and white films. Getting the materials needed for their black and white films and paper is expected to be tedious and costly.

If this pushes through, Fujifilm will be the next film manufacturing company to bring back their black and white film next to Kodak. It can be remembered that Kodak recently brought back their TMAX 3200 film and the response from the film community was a collective sigh of relief (and success!)

Although it’s too early to say that Fujifilm will indeed bring back their black and white films, it won’t hurt if more and more film lovers inform them that a revival of their B&W line is in order. From what we’ve seen across different photography sites and blogs, film shooters are keen on seeing Acros and Neopan films back in stock. How about you?
