When the march begins, there is an amazing sense of joy that spreads on the streets of the city. As soon as we hear our favorite song blasting on the speakers, the excitement is uncontainable. During the parade, the loud music and the myriad of colors take over and it is a feast for the eye of a photographer.

Each march aims to educate and promote equal rights for all and to remember the first activists who were the face of the movement in 1970. In many Western cities, the celebratory aspect is quite predominant. The festivities are grand, and the atmosphere is cheerful with an overwhelming feeling of joy and celebration.

The beginnings of this annual event, now known as Pride Parade, is the riot that erupted in New York in 1969. The Stonewall Uprising took it's name from the gay bar in Greenwich Village that was raided by police on June 28, 1969.

In commemoration of the event, in 1970, on the anniversary of the uprising, the first Pride marches were held in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

"We propose that a demonstration be held annually on the last Saturday in June in New York City to commemorate the 1969 spontaneous demonstrations on Christopher Street and this demonstration be called CHRISTOPHER STREET LIBERATION DAY."

That was the inception of what we now celebrate as Pride month and the Pride Parade. Let the march begin!

Since 1970 the goal of the Pride March was to change the social institutions that make life in the LGBTIQA+ community less equal. Progress has been made since 1970, however unfortunately, the road to full equal rights is not at the same point everywhere in the world.

By documenting the event, we keep a record and conserve the testimony for future generations to come. We want to celebrate all the hard work that has been made up to now, and not take for granted the rights that have been won.
