Long-time LomoAmigo Angela Izzo never leaves home without her Lomography gear. In this edition of Around the World in Analogue, we follow Angela's recent trip around Switzerland and Italy, where she intended to combine ancestral exploration with her artistic expression, through a collection of our cameras and films.

Angela Izzo: The trip was sparked by a long-held desire to reconnect with my Italian roots, a wish that had been growing stronger over the years. The opportunity finally came when I was invited to participate in a group art show in Geneva, Switzerland, my first international showcase! It felt like the perfect moment to not only showcase my film photography in the exhibition but also to fulfill my dream of exploring Italy. I traveled by train from Geneva to Milan, Lake Como, Lerici, Tuscany, and Florence.

Traveling to Italy was a deeply personal and enriching experience. The journey was very unique and each photograph I captured reflected a blend of artistic expression and cultural exploration. The peak of this adventure was definitely my show in Switzerland, where my film photography was able to find a platform to tell its own story. Looking back, this trip really allowed me to combine personal passion with magical moments, making my journey both artistically fulfilling and personally rewarding.

The motivation behind my inspiration has always been the excitement of exploring new places, immersing myself in different cultures, and experiencing great food! With my camera, I aimed to capture the realness of these moments and share the soul of each place. Searching for genuine connections in new places continues in driving my art and igniting my creative journey.

Traveling with various cameras is like having a palette of creative tools. Each camera adds a unique touch to familiar scenes, making each shot more exciting than the next. My go-to La Sardina is consistent in the beauty of its shots, while my Dianas infuse a touch of experimentation. I use different cameras strategically to capture moments in various styles. While I'm usually the one taking the photos, my self-portraits have unexpectedly become important. They help me tell my own story and relive the experiences they hold. Looking at these images takes me back to the specifics of each moment— the temperature, the scent in the air, the time of day, and the emotions I felt— painting a vivid picture of the memory.

One memorable experience was visiting the Colossus of Apennines at Villa Demidoff near Florence. This ancient sculpture, dating back to the late 1500s, was a truly magical encounter. Being in the presence of one of the world's oldest standing sculptures felt like being frozen in time.

This trip has really made me appreciate the world around me more. In Europe, I've learned the importance of being present, no matter where I am. It showed me how rich life can be when you step out of your comfort zone. Exploring places with such diversity really reminded me to seize the moment, live life with intent and embrace the unknown!
