Experiencing the Lomo LC-A MINITAR-1 Art Lens for the First Time

We are always delighted when a photographer is introduced to the world of Lomography Art lenses. With the distinctive characteristics that each lens has, we love to see how they can fit every photographer’s style.

We chatted with photographer and designer Lucia Tarozzo about her first experience with the Lomo LC-A MINITAR-1 Art Lens 2.8/32 M & Mirrorless Camera Adapter and what it takes to try something new.

Hello Lucia, and welcome to Lomography Magazine. Please tell us how you started your photography journey.

Thank you! I'm happy to be here. I started to take pictures when I was thirteen years old. For my birthday I asked my father for a mobile phone but instead he bought me a digital camera. Even though that day I hated that present a lot, now it has become one of my happiest memories. That's how everything started.

This was your first time with the Lomo LC-A MINITAR-1 Art Lens 2.8/32 and a Lomography Art Lens in general. How was your experience?

It was also my first time with a manual lens. At the beginning I thought I wouldn't get a single-shot right, but after I took some photos and grew my confidence with the lens, I got caught up in creating the framing and I appreciated its ease of use. I can say that at the end of the day I also loved the wrong shots.

What did you enjoy about the MINITAR-1 Lens?

For sure the lightness. Maybe this is an unpopular view but it makes a full frame camera pocket size. The colors are soft, the blur at f/2.8 it is unique, and looks like a retro style. You can use it for both portraits and reportage.

Any advice to new Lomography Art lens shooters out there?

As I did, I recommend trying something different at least once and seemingly challenging than what they are used to, without putting fears or pressure on themselves. Whether it is a different focal length, an artistic accessory, or a colored filter. Just try and see.
