This Summer I Swam in the Ocean and I Swam in a Swimming Pool
31 73 Share TweetSummer is here, kids! And what better thing to do than go swimming, take photographs or maybe both? In this article we’ve compiled a small selection of photos around the theme of swimming. And some recommendations on what gear to use to make those awesome under water shots.
As usual we also suggest a soundtrack: this time it’s the wonderful The Swimming Song by Loudon Wainwright III. Open the link in an additional tab, turn up the volume, click show all photos and then scroll through.
There are several products we can recommend for under- or in-water photography: the Krab Underwater Housing for the Lomo LC-A and LC-W. Or the Fisheye Submarine Case for the Fisheye One and Two.
While compiling this gallery – usually we download tons of photos for different search terms and narrow them down in many iterations – we saw that stouf is responsible for a good third of this gallery. So I’ve decided to ask him about water photography, his favorite camera and why he likes swimming:
Rule N°11: when underwater, leave only bubbles and take only pictures. Favourite cam? Nikonos V. Why do I like swimming? Except the breathing part, it is complete freedom.
Thanks stouf!
Further (random) references: read the great short story The Swimmer by John Cheever. Listen to Swim by Surfer Blood (also check out the Alpaca remix), Swimming by Sunset Rubdown, Swimmers by Broken Social Scene or I Sing I Swim by our lovely Lomo Amigos Seabear. Watch Loudon in the great but short-lived TV show Undeclared. Rent Esther Williams movies. Or hear Bon Iver’s cover of The Swimming Song.
We are sure there are plenty photos we forgot to add. So please post the links to your favorite swimming photos in the comments! And let us know where to go swimming in your area and – hint, hint – maybe write a LomoLocation on that.
