Rescans...
After the "bad batch", I decided to take a picture of a negative with my iPhone and inverted it in Photoshop. The results were totally different this time! They looked like they were supposed to.
So, I asked my lab to rescan them, this time as slides. But that also was a lost effort. For some reason, they scanned it with a white balance preset that made the scans look cyan blue, when the actual negatives were leaning towards green (which should be normal, since that's the opposite of red).
So I ended up adjusting everything in post (which I normally don't do, mind you) to make the digital files match the negatives, and THEN inverting them. This is the result. However, I am so determined to find out the deal before starting on another roll (and potentially wasting this awesome discontinued film), that I had ordered prints of this batch at another lab. They should be done (and uploaded) by next week Wednesday. In any case, next time I'm developing it in E-6.
