Hanging out in town

These photos are taken in Dunfermline town centre on a sunny August morning. The town’s prosperity peaked about 100 years ago. In more recent years it’s been a dormitory base for Edinburgh. New housing estates clustered on the Eastern edge near the motorway. Retail areas, a railway station, and a big park and ride were added on that side of town. Internet shopping further eroded the function of the town centre. Charity shops and bargain stores took over. But people still like to promenade. The pandemic may be leading to a renaissance. New cafes, barbers, and beauty salons have appeared. Local living may be making a comeback.
