Rio is not just the fine white sand beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema and definitely not just the Havainas. It is that azure skies on a sunny day, the many people of diverse cultures strolling or jogging or cycling along the boulevard or sunbathing in their swimsuits, the green mountains that seem to rise above the fine rows of white/off-white architectures of hotels, condominiums and apartments along Atlantic Blvd., the ambulant vendors selling Brazil souvenirs, the doves that fly and flock all around, the rows of coconut trees, the kiosks selling coconut juice and local beers such as Brahma and Skol and the more traditional Caipirinha produced from fermented sugarcane and a squeeze of lime. It's difficult to sum up the charms of Rio but I hope these pictures taken the morning we arrived in Rio will give you an idea why even when I'm already back in Manila, it's images keep haunting me like a beautiful dream.
