What aspects of being a music photographer do you like most?

It’s nice to meet new people every single day you work. It’s also a good feeling to get closer to the musicians than any other and catch those special moments.

What are the perfect conditions for shooting an artist or musician?

The perfect premise to make great live photos is an impressive show and an enthusiastic crowd. And the artist has to trust me, I have to become a part of the band, so that I don’t disturb on stage and backstage.

What came to mind when you saw the Petzval Lens for the first time? Did people ask you about it?

I was impressed, its like holding a piece of history in your hands. And so many people asked me what kind of lens it is, with the golden look it’s an eye-catcher like no other. I also had a lot of interesting conversations with other photographers who wanted to know how it works or about my experience with the lens.

Can you tell us a bit more about the pictures you took with it?

Most of them are of friends or acts at music festivals like the splash! or Helene Beach Festival in Germany. But I also wanted to use the lens with more time and more attention than on a loud festival. So I also asked some friends for personal shoots.

How was it shooting with the Petzval? What do you like most about it?

It can take a while to get the pictures sharp, but when you got it it’s so much fun and the results speak their own language. The bokeh effect is stunning, I’ve never seen a lens before which makes this effect so massive.

Any good advice for those who would like to use the Petzval to shoot concerts?

Make Push Ups one week before because its a heavy lens, but it pays off.

Which person (dead or alive) would you like to photograph with the New Petzval 58 Art Lens?

A$AP ROCKY, because the arsty look of the bokeh matches well with his image. Because he isn’t just a musician A$AP ROCKY himself is a masterpiece.
