We invited Hong Kong photographer Calvin Fu to be one of the first to experience this art lens. Hi Calvin, Welcome to Lomography magazine again. Please introduce yourself to the readers!

Hello everyone, my name is Calvin and I'm a photography enthusiast who also takes on freelance work.

How was your experience shooting with this lens?

As a Sony user, I found that Lomography had previously offered fewer E-Mount lenses. However, with this lens, I can now use it without using an adapter, which is very convenient and lightweight.

What do you like most about this lens?

I think it's the lens' ability to switch between different effects. It provides a certain degree of flexibility in choosing the effect, which can be adjusted based on different situations. Also, compared to the Petzval 80.5 lens I used before, this lens is much lighter.

How did the Bokeh Control function help you in your portraiture work?

In general, when we want to capture dreamy bokeh, we can only control the size of the bokeh pattern or rely on the lens' built-in effect. But with this lens' interchangeable modes, there are more options available. The bubble effect of this lens is a unique circular bokeh that is not commonly found.

In which situation would you recommend using this lens?

With a focal length of 64 mm and the features of controlling bokeh, this lens is definitely designed for night portrait photography, especially in colorful lighting situations, where the bokeh control feature gives the user greater flexibility.

Which mode - Soft, Classic, or Bubble - do you like the most?

To be honest, it was initially difficult to distinguish between the different modes when testing the lens. But after some trial and error, I gradually learned to differentiate the unique effects of each mode. I find the relationship between the three modes to be somewhat subtle. Soft is the most blurred, followed by bubble, while classic is the sharpest.

When comparing the three modes, I find that the photos taken in classic mode are the most impressive, as the sharpness is truly remarkable when shooting wide open. Soft mode has impressive blurring capabilities, and using a smaller aperture might make it more suitable for certain situations. Bubble mode, as a middle ground between classic and soft, can also produce unique photos with its distinct bokeh effect.

What makes a good portrait, and how does this lens help achieve that?

As someone who prioritizes their interests and occasionally takes on freelance photography, I believe a satisfactory portrait photo is one that the model also likes, or at least does not object to. With a lens that provides three modes with different effects, it's easier to choose a mode that's suitable for the model's look and environment, which can help in capturing a satisfying portrait photo.

What are your future photography plans?

I don't have any plans yet, but I hope to explore more beautiful places in Hong Kong that I haven't been to or visited less frequently. As the city's colorful lights and older buildings and objects become increasingly scarce, I want to capture and document as much as I can through my photography.
