First Impressions of the Daguerreotype Achromat 2.9/64 Art Lens: Xavier Boldú

1

Xavier Boldú recently shot some beautiful images with the Petzval 85 Lens so we lent him the Daguerreotype Achromat 2.9/64 Art Lens and our brand new special apertures to test out.

Please tell us more about yourself and what you do.
I am originally from Barcelona but I moved to London just over 4 years ago. I have been working in a photo lab since then. I love photography, especially portraiture.

Can you tell us about the photos you took?
I really wanted to show what the new aperture plates can do. I decided that a park would be the best option. That light coming through the leaves in the background is transformed into interesting shapes (stars, hearts and even snowflakes). I decided to call some friends and organise a couple of photoshoots to try the lens out.

What is your first impression of Daguerreotype Achromat Lens?
It wasn’t easy to get a photo perfectly in focus. But I guess that is what this lens are all about. They give a dreamy and airy finish to your photos.I found that the best of all the shapes was, surprisingly, the snowflake. In most of the photos you can’t even tell it is an snowflake. The bokeh is transformed into some sort of glittery backdrop.

If you could take the Daguerreotype Achromat Lens out again, where would you like to shoot and what would the theme be?
The Daguerreotype Achromat Lensis definitely a Portrait Lens. Looks great when you photograph people against a busy background. I wouldn’t use them on a serious photoshoot because of the soft sharpness but it is definitely a fun lens that gives your photos a different and distinctive look.If I could take them again I would try to shoot at night to see how those city lights look in the background.

Any upcoming projects?
Recently I have been more focused on my photography as a future profession. I have built my personal website xavierboldu.com and I am starting to get into engagement and wedding photography. I have also planned an exhibition a small cafe in north London this September. If you’ll like to know more about it or about me you can follow me on my Facebook Page Xavier Boldu Photography.
