First Impressions with the Lomo'Instant Square: Pierre P.Marchal aka Jppm.fr

Art director Pierre P. Marchal aka Jppm.fr tested the Lomo'Instant Square, and here's a peek at what he came up with!

Hi Pierre! Tell us something about yourself, please?

Bonjour, my name is Pierre P. Marchal, I'm 28 years old and I was born and raised in Paris where I still live. After studying at l'École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture (Fashion School in Paris), I oriented myself towards press (Fashion writing for Harper’s Bazaar), events planning and visual identity managing through different collaborations. Meanwhile, I developed a personal creative project on Instagram under the name JPPM @jppm.fr. On this space dedicated to images, I express myself through compiling and juxtaposing pictures to create a dialogue between them. It's called the Never Ending Mood Board, it's a performative rendez-vous as I post a collage every day. It's a poem of the zeitgeist, mixing all the arts, all the minds and imaginations. I then created a virtual exhibition for the Festival International de la Mode et de la Photographie de Hyères en 2016 (Fashion & Photography Festival in Villa Noailles, South of France). This virtual museum on Instagram was called the "EverLoading Museum", it was a phantasmagoric digital exhibition. I also did multiple collaborations with Adidas, Gucci, etc.

Today, JPPM is a start-up curating talents and developing the creative strategy for many clients in the field of Fashion and Contemporary Art like @Carven_paris or @VillaNoailles.

What advice would you give those who are thinking of trying what you do?

To be curious about everything, to follow his instinct, to work hard, to be determined and not to hesitate to take risks.

What advice would you give to your 15-year-old self?

To invest time and resources in research and creation around sustainable development. To continue to make talents from all other world meet each other, and to also collect their artworks.

What are your sources of inspiration ?

I'm like a sponge for inspiration. I spend my days looking at thousands of pictures on Instagram, most of the time I screenshot them to save the one I like. One day, I had enough of having so many files of inspirational pictures on my computer, so I decided to visually organize these inspirations through the NeverEndingMoodboard on @jppm.fr. Today, I'm equally inspired by the drawings of an unknown young illustrator from the countryside In Peru or by the latest Viviane Sassen's photo shoot. As I'm as well inspired by all the artists I've met and I'm following.

You use a lot of photographs in your collages for Jppm.fr. What is photography to you?

Photography is a magical way of capturing a moment, a colour, a painting, a sculpture, a point of view, a memory and to share it with all of the world if we want to. From a certain point of view, there is something egoistic and generous in photography. From my side as JPPM, photography is a medium to make visible the newest exclusivity as the forgotten archive. It's different from the other artistic means of expression (painting, drawing, etc.) because it's playing with the codes of reality, which makes photography very strong and disrupting.

What do you like about instant photography?

I like to see the process of the image developing in this white square, it's always magical. I love the fact that the photo materializes, thanks to this instant process. We are not really used to printing our photos anymore, even analogue photography is digitized. Instant photography is something really poetic with an old-fashioned charm that it is irreplaceable.

How do you like the pictures taken with the Lomo'Instant Square?

When I tried the Lomo'Instant Square, I mainly used the multiple exposure mode. It's really spontaneous and the result has something improbable and offers quite great surprises.

What do you like about the square format?

Square format is at the heart of my work and creative process as I choose to use Instagram to express myself. It's a read lead, a spine. I always play with this invisible frame. The square reassures me and allows me to structure my collages.
