Ryde, a busy town where the Hovercraft from Southsea arrives, the Catamaran ferry too and where one can find the Pier. To the Pier head runs the railway. Passengers arriving by ship can directly transfer to the train and take a ride to Ryde . The Pier is about half a mile long, in metric money this is 0.8 km. It consists of three parts: one for the railway, one for cars and pediastrians and there used to be one for one of the first electric tramway in the world. In 1880 the horse drawn carriages were replaced by electric ones. This was 10 years before the first tube railway. Since 1928 the cars were petrol driven. :) the world
