HBCU Valedictorian
In a country where African descendants have been marginalized, institutions like the HBCU play a vital role in those people's futures. Today's mass inclusion of minorities to predominantly white institutions is something to be proud of, but those institutions are not equipped to properly serve everyone. The HBCU motivates certain people to strive for excellence, provides a deeply-rooted community, and can develop some students who are not ideal candidates for most schools. Becoming a valedictorian is no small accomplishment. Many are capable of doing such a thing, but they need more than just personal will. They need an environment that can maximize their potential.
