I have an Epson scanner, the V500, which comes equipped with scanning masks, both for 35mm and 120 films. There’s nothing bad to be said about those masks, to be honest. But I had plans to expose sprocket holes (on 35mm film) and saw that the DigitaLIZA 120 cover less of the edges of film than the mask that came with the scanner. So, when I had enough piggies for it, I got the DigitaLIZA package.

The first (and big!) advantage about the DigitaLIZA 120 that presented itself to me was the fact that the it can accommodate 3 6×6 frames in its window (as opposed to 2 only on the Epson mask). This meant for me that the scanning will go at 150% from now on! All the people who are scanning at home know it is a big difference… The second obvious advantage was indeed that the DigitaLIZA 120 is covering only a minimal portion of the film edges (about 2mm). All Diana owners (who scan their own film) know that the frame that the Diana exposes on the film is not exactly in the middle. Scanning with the Epson mask always meant losing a slice of the top of the image. The DigitaLIZA 120 lets you get the full frame also on cameras that expose full 6×6 (such as the Lubitel and Holga for example).

The DigitaLIZA 120 is built to deal well also with cross-processed slide film (which tends to curl much more than negatives) with a simple yet genius magnet system.
