Roquebrune, A Medieval Village by The Sea

3

Roquebrune is a nice little medieval village, located 225m high and just a few kilometers from the sea. That means an amazing view over the Mediterranean coast….

The village of Roquebrune was founded in the year 970 on a strategic peak a few km away from the sea. The village has all the charming aspects of these old medieval places of the south of France and it’s a real pleasure to walk through the narrow little streets and discover something new at every corner. Follow the way up, always go higher to the top of the village, and suddenly you’ll discover an amazing and unexpected view over the whole coastal area, from Monaco to the Italian border.

The village is dominated by an impressing fortress, the original Castle of the middle ages, and you can understand well why this place was chosen as a military place at this time.

When you reached the east end part of the village, you’ll find a little path going down to the coast. It’s a nice walk to the beach of Cap Martin (but the beach will be another location to come soon… ;)) On this way, there’s a huge Olive tree who is said to be 1000 years old…. Looking at its size and the impressing roots going in every direction, you can imagine easily that this tree has witnessed the whole history of this village!

A charming place, an amazing viewpoint and a beautiful medieval castle… what do you want more?? :)))
