When the Diana F+ Flash Doesn't Dazzle, Fix It!
18 17 Share TweetSometimes, that extra drop on the hard concrete floor, or the extra thud on the edge on a wooden table can knock the mechanism that enables our retro Diana F+ falshes to shoot a dazzling display of light. Often, it can be fixed. Diana F+ flash can be saved!
The first thing you need to do is determine why your precious flash is not firing. simple jiggle the flash up and down. Do you hear (or feel) the battery moving slighltly? If you do, the little spring in your flash has been knocked loose. Fret not, my fellow lomographers, she can be rescued!
I guess paying attention in my science modules has had its benefits. because if it was simply a connection probem, all i needed to do was to find simething to help to complete the inner circuit of the Diana Flash in order to get her healthy and firing again.
I tried various things. from metal bracelet wires to cutting up old clicky-pen springs (have you ever tried cutting up a small spring with a rusty pair of sissors without protective goggles on? not a good idea). Eventually, though, i hit the jackpot. Aluminium foil! It’s something virtually everyone has at home, it’s easy to work with, and it can conduct electricity (thank you, science class)! T’was fate.
What you will need:
- a pair of scissors
- a small sheet of aluminium foil
- a working battery
- and your injured Diana Flash
- First, cut up a small rectangle out of the aluminium foil. fold it over many times so that it gets thicker. It’s easier to get it too thick the first time rather than too flat.
- Open the battery cover and slowly balance the aluminium foil on top of the positive terminal of the battery. shut the battery door. Jiggle the flash again, is the battery still moving about? If it is, you need to try a thicker piece of foil. If it is not, your circuit is complete and your flash sould be able to fire!
If your problem was a simple connection failure, your flash should be fine and dandy again! Go, fire away!
