A Fun and Easy How-To
The effects are undeniably awesome and quite easy to achieve. This holiday season why not spice up your family photos or make the best New Years shots ever!
Here’s All You’ll Need:
- Diana F+ switched to its B (bulb setting)
- Diana Instant Back+
- Fuji Instax Mini Film
- Light Source (flashlight or penlight-type would work best)
- Cellophane Paper or Lomographic Color Gels
- A helping hand
1. First things first, cut your cellophane paper into narrow strips, and stick it to your light source with clear tape. You could also use your color gels from your Colorsplash Flash, Ringflash or whatever you find knocking about! The more variety of colours you use, the more dynamic the instant masterpieces you will create! A good tip to remember is that it’s all in the power of your external light!
2. The next step is to attach your Diana F+ to a tripod unit (or stable place) and adjust your focusing distance. It would be great if you do this project in a pitch-dark room.
3. Make sure to set your Diana’s shutter mode to B (bulb).
4. One friend should control the shutter release, while the one in the dark writes with the flashlight.
5. After taking your long exposure shot, please push the film development button. Beware! If your shutter release stays open too long, you might over-expose your photo – you don’t want whitewashed instants, do you? (Set your Diana F+’s opening to F16/22.)
Voila! Instant photos that look amazing! And if you would like a little more guidance on how to achieve these great effects, read a full explanation from Mandi or better yet, try a lesson at one of the winter light painting workshops happening at the Lomography Gallery Stores worldwide.
