Nightlife in Raiatea???

As for the LC-A race location at least one is needed to be about “Night and Music Delirium (bar, view, park)” I thought myself, wow, this one will be hard to find for my stage locations about Raiatea Island….. let’s say it short: there is absolutely NO NIGHTLIFE on Raiatea…. :( But perhaps I could find a good place to shoot at night…?

Well, what could i shoot at night knowing that here on Raitea absolutely nothing is open, everybody is at home and over all, there’s almost no public light at night in the city of Uturoa where I could try to shoot some cool night shots, playing with flashes and darkness….

As we have a nice garden, I thought that I could perhaps make some night shots with my strobe flash on the LC-A+ and I knew that the duck family of our garden stays always at the same place at night… I could perhaps make some shots with the ducks? So, let’s say that this location is about my garden at night, a nice place like others where you can feel good and relaxed?

I thought about it but didn’t know when to shoot, and how. Last sunday I woke up pretty early, about 4.30 am and it was still a dark night outside. As I couldn’t sleep, I thought about my “night location” and thought I could experiment this now…

So I grabbed the LC-A+ and the strobe flash, put the wide angle flash in my pocket, my tripod and cable release to shoot at night in my garden! :)

Well, I had the impression to discover this garden under a new angle, a very different mood from the day or evening. With the strobe flash the trees and leaves and the whole nature around looked really different, the shadows of the multiple strobe flashes gave the whole scene something surrealistic. And I was laughing by thinking that if some neighbors were already awake they really would ask themselves what these kind of flashing lights coming out of our garden could be (strobe flash and wide angle slave flash together can really bring a strong amount of light in the dark night) ha ha! :)

I also wanted to shoot the clear night sky with all the beautiful stars and even a milky way in the horizon…. but unfortunately, the LC-A+ had not enough strong batteries for very long exposure times. I tried some but the exposure times were apparently too short to be good exposures (even with a 800 asa film)… So nothing of this came out :(
Despite this I have some of the night-multi flash shots, and as I thought to come in and make ma cup of coffee, I noticed the the day and the sun began slowly to rise up…it was already 5.30 am… wow, that could be a great occasion to shoot too! :)

And true, when you come out of the night and see slowly the whole sunrise, from darkness to light, from black to yellow, wow, that’s a magic moment, and so I decided to shoot the last shots of the film, hoping the LC-A+ will find again a bit energy for the last shots of the sunrise. A cup of Coffee in my hand and the LC-A+ in the other, I sat down on the little pier and watched the sunrise….. and surprisingly the camera shot these moments correctly as there was more light perhaps…?

Anyway, the moment is true magic and I wanted to share with you this very simple location: my garden at night, like everybodies garden at night. There’s always something to discover nder a new angle, and if you can also see the sunrise (from anywhere in the world), you know how this “garden location” is a good one! :))

Wonderful photos and location!! Put you LCA on a tripod and get moonlight shots, and on a really dark, moonless night, shoot into deep dark. That LCA will do exposures of minutes! Colour shift and reciprocity failure will give you unexpected colours, and in the photos will be things you didn't know were there! Enjoy.

Woooo, That is a garden! I am with stouf and the ducks. I would not wonder what your neighbours were thinking but what those ducks were feeling when a maniac with a flash started to blind them at 5:00 am...
