The Sea Swimming Pool of Uturoa
11 6 Share TweetGoing to the swimming pool is always cool, but I don’t like it when the place is closed and smelling strong chemicals… open air pools are much better, but the chemicals in the water are still there… and what about an open air swimming pool that is open on the beautiful waters of a logoon? That’s what I want to show you now, the open air sea-pool of Uturoa!
One might think, what’s the use of a swimming pool when you’re on an island surrounded by a beautiful turquoise water lagoon? Well, the first time I heard about the swimming pool of the city of Uturoa, I thought that it was surely not interesting at swimming in the lagoon is much more fun. But then some told me that this pool wasn’t like the others, and that I should go there and see by myself. that’s what I did, and oh surprise, I never saw a swimming pool like that!
In fact it’s almost like a real swimming pool. Olympic size, showers and cabins like every city-pool and all you can find in asuch a place…. BUT this pool has only 3 borders, the 4th one was never built as it’s fully open to the sea! And the water doesn’t smell the typical pool chemicals, as it’s salted water from the lagoon! Swimming in this pool is a real pleasure, as you have the possibility to follow the lines from one side to another or to follow the other way out to the lagoon.
And what a view when you’re swimming there: in front of you is Taha’a island (if you’re well trained you could try to swim over there, but it’s amost 10 km distance….) and if you look on the other side you can see the Mt Tapioi (see other location) dominating the city. It’s also a cool place to meet friends and aother people and relaxing at the sea in a nice place.
Well it’s really a fascinating place to swim. Of course, there are a lot of other cool spots to swim, but I think it’s an unique city swimming pool. If you know other swimming pools like that, just tell me, I’m curious to now if this exists in other places too…
