Places to Go for Traveling Lomographers: God’s Own Junkyard

Whenever we talk about London we always picture the gray and smoggy skies. It’s not like that all the time, though. You can get a taste of color somewhere here.

Tuck inside Walthamstow, London, is a peculiar art gallery in which nighttime is forever. God’s Own Junkyard is a showcase of the late artist Chris Bracey’s personal collection of very colorful neon signs and symbols that come from signage for Soho sex clubs in the 60’s, and his works for the movie industry.

It’s a neon wonderland inside God’s Own Junkyard. You’ll be welcomed by psychedelic neon lights and vintage signs. Some of the pieces done by the Neon Man were featured in movies such as “Captain America”, “Eyes Wide Shut”, “Byzantium”, and more. His works have been recognized by leading industry directors like Stanley Kubrick, Tim Burton and Christoper Nolan.

The walls are littered by colorful signages, thousands of signs in the gallery. You can actually purchase a piece of artwork from here, or simply just ogle and take photographs. When shooting, you might want to use multiple exposure techniques for portraiture like photographer Louis Dazy. For clear-shots of neon signs, use an emulsion with high light sensitivity, such as the Lomography Color Negative 800.
