Tom Sachs: Creating with the Lomo'Instant Automat
2 9 Share TweetBorn in New York City, sculptor Tom Sachs is best known for his societal critique through works such as Cultural Prosthetics and Creativity is the Enemy, which explore the relationship of branding and consumerism with violence. His unique stylisation can't be missed and has contributed to his success, today, his work is recognized all around the world.
Recently, Sachs used a Lomo'Instant Automat on a secret project that has now been revealed.
The project is entitled Swiss Passport Office and the artist said that it aims to "break down the borders and eliminate the concept of nationality" as "this comes at a time where our liberal democracies are being threatened, and oppressed people all over the world live in danger and without refuge."
Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in London was lucky enough to have this embassy on display for 24 hours as an interactive performance art piece. Visitors were able to buy their very own hand-typed and serial-numbered Tom Sachs Studio passport. The exhibition continues until the 10th November, however, they are no longer issuing passports.
More information can be found on Sach's website or Instagram.
