Sneak Peek: Film Photos by @mikaelogic

Miguel Vieira is a 24-year-old psychology student in Lisbon, Portugal. Aside from photography, he likes to travel as much as he can; before the pandemic, he enjoyed cruising with friends or playing football. It was a year ago when he started shooting film, which was inspired by his love of cinema and photography. "The magic around this art always amazed me, I think it was just a matter of time. The fact that you don't get the results of your experience immediately and that we have to think and study the photo before taking it makes it even more special for me. Some of my friends also started shooting film in the past few years, and I took some pictures with their cameras. The thought of having my own got stuck in my mind. Last year, I was leaving town to go to Norway to work for the summer and I decided to buy a camera. And since then I didn't stop."

Miguel has used the Lomography Potsdam and Berlin Kino, which he says, exceeded his expectations. "I think that what I like more about them is the contrasts and the quality of the film itself. It's very different from the black and white films I used before. In a positive way. All I can say is that I will definitely purchase more of these whenever I want to shoot black and white."

Among Miguel's recent photographs, he picks a portrait he shot during a music video shoot as his favorite. "It's in the rooftop of a building and I didn't experience "freedom" for a quite long time because of the pandemic. The expression and the feeling I get from it is that: a picture is more than just a frame captured from your vision. It can express a feeling, and in my opinion, it should pass a message, and the person that sees it should take it the way they want to. I don't know if I made myself clear but I'm sure someone out there thinks the same way."

How has the lockdown affected his flow as a budding photographer? " I can say that during the lockdown I went to a lot of different moods. Mostly I was in a mindset of anti-procrastination and I can proudly say I succeeded. Even though, the uncertainty and the shock of being in this situation that in our lifetime we never thought would be a reality really makes me anxious. My life had to change and I had to embrace it and understand it was not up to me. But on the other hand, it made me explore more and more my creativity and ways to develop skills. Photography was one of my main focuses, as I passed a lot of my time learning about film and shooting at home and around my neighborhood. Fortunately, things are getting better here in Portugal, for now, and I can go out more often and travel around the country."
