Artists and Curators, Here's Your Chance to Join EXP.22, the International Experimental Photography Festival

The EXP.22 is a festival organized by a non-profit cultural association whose idea is to create, promote and disseminate experimental photography in all its aspects. Now on its third edition, the open call is open until 10 January 2022 for artists and curators who want to participate in EXP.22, the 3rd International Experimental Photography Festival which will take place in Barcelona in July 2022.

The selected 50 artists will be able to exhibit their works, host workshops, and conferences during the five days of the EXP. 22,​ from July 20 to 24, 2022. The aim is to bring together the worldwide community of photographers who play with image limits and who do not fall into traditional categories.

"It is essential to create an international community of artists who can support each other, recognize themselves on an equal footing and create new projects. This association lives in a permanent search for different expressions from a transdisciplinary perspective since it understands that photography is nourished by cinema, video, painting, architecture, music, sculpture, dance, and other artistic and social expressions."

For five days, more than 400 international artists will be able to share their stories and experiences at the Institut d'Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya and the Center Cívic Pati Llimona, two key spaces for photography in the city. Laura Ligari and Pablo Giori, directors of the festival, affirm that these will be intense days to share technical knowledge, generate spaces for international collaboration, and meet experimental photographers from all over the world who do similar or very different things. They also highlight the total economic transparency (here, people can see what the money is spent on) and the commitment they have to gender equality in all their activities.

What else to expect from the 2022 edition of the festival? Tables, presentations of projects and experiences, 80 workshops, 10 portfolio reviews, and the possibility of having their images selected to participate in any of the 6 exhibitions.

"The objective is to be able to share, learn and debate about experimental photography in its many facets: from the creation of cameras, optics, and films to the processes of printing, intervention, and production of copies, exhibitions, and photobooks."
