Hi Fran, welcome to our Online Magazine! Can you please introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi everyone! Thank you for the invitation. My name is Fran Yitani, I am Venezuelan-Spanish, and I live in Madrid. I am a photographer, filmmaker, and YouTuber.

Tell us about your photographic background. What is your story? When did you start photographing?

Since I was a child I have had a passion for cameras, and at a certain point in my life, I started taking photos to capture the best moments in my life. I studied photography at the Roberto Mata School in Venezuela and Audiovisual Communication at the Universidad Santa Maria. I enjoy telling stories with my cameras.

In an undeniable digital era you shoot often on film. Why this choice?

After I began studying photography, my teachers instilled in me the magic of the analogue photo-making process, so I picked it up again. When I was a child, my first camera was an analogue Vivitar. When I resumed taking analogue photos, I became very interested in the darkroom process, so I started learning how to develop my own rolls of film. I fell in love with the process, and I continue to develop film to this day.

These days, analogue photography is more expensive and more complicated because it's not as immediate, but the process alone is worth it.

Who or what inspires your work?

My work is inspired by people, moments, and feelings. I enjoy showing what I feel when I take a photo and evoking emotions in those who see it.

I have been inspired by many photographers with different styles, but currently, I am looking for new artists to enrich myself from other people.

What features did you like most about our LomoChrome Color '92 film?

I liked that it's a film with contrasting colors, very summery, with intense yellows and blues but also with hints of green and nice grain.

What is your favorite photo from this series and why?

I believe my favorite photo is this one of the beach. It represents what my summer vacation was like and the various situations that were happening. I waited for the exact moment when the boat passed and the people in the water didn't touch each other, forming a triangle, and then the umbrellas as well. I really enjoy composing with geometric shapes.

What do you think about the arrival of a new color negative film on the market?

I think it's incredible that new films are emerging these days, and it excites me a lot. I would like to see more of them coming out, with prices becoming more affordable so I can shoot more rolls in my daily life and personal projects.

What do you think are the ideal conditions for shooting this film?

I think this film works very well on sunny days because it has good contrast and you can get vibrant colors. However, it can also yield good results in low-light situations, as seen in the photo of my friend with the motorcycle and the sunset in the background.

Which camera did you use?

For these photos, I used the Minolta X700 with a Minolta MD 50 mm 1.4 lens. The camera is a good SLR that used to belong to my mom, and she used it to take pictures of my childhood. The lens is very bright and has excellent quality.

Which camera do you always carry with you?

Recently I bought a Leica M5 with a summicron 50 mm 1.4 and I've been only using this camera every day. I'm obsessed!

You have a very interesting YouTube Channel. When did you start this project and how it is going?

I started my channel in 2018, but it's only recently that I've been consistently creating videos. This year, I made a video about a man who owns a photo store in Madrid (Antonio del Solar), and my channel's subscriber count grew from 800 to almost 5,000. It was amazing and this motivated me to keep creating content.

Any upcoming projects you would like to share with our readers?

Currently, more videos are coming to my YouTube channel. On Instagram, I've created a channel where I talk about analogue photography (trends, new videos, inspirations, and more). And soon, my website is coming, where I will have printed photos and other photography-related products available for sale. I am working on a medium-term project about my niece's growth, and it has me very excited.
