Welcome to Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo - Known as the Football Capital of the Philippines

Last December I went to the Football Capital of the Philippines, locally known as Barotac Nuevo to spend the afternoon and take some photos. There were some guys practicing football and I just can’t help but start clicking away.

Nuevo is located in the middle part of the province of Iloilo. It is located on the eastern part of the coast and is near the ocean. Barotac Nuevo became a famous town because of football. Most of the top players in the country visits Barotac Nuevo to spot some good football players. On the recent 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup, Barotac Nuevo has two glorious players playing for Team Philippines.

Anyway, aside from football, Barotac Nuevo is famous for its old church, called St. Anthony de Padua Church which stands next to the football grounds. From Iloilo City, it takes around 45 minutes to 1 hour of travel before reaching Barotac Nuevo. It’s a simple, little small town filled with hospitable people. There are also a lot of nice places in Barotac Nuevo. That includes their so-called “famous” Karen’s Batchoy ,a good snaps of fresh fishes from the bay, and some good restaurants to eat out.

To get there you can take a bus, a jeepney, or a van. You should also not miss out on their famous cemetery. Barotac Nuevo is a really great town. It sits next to Dumangas where a port is easily located en-route to Bacolod City, Negros Occidental. Barotac Nuevo has a twin town namely Barotac Viejo which is just two towns away.
