Kodak 400TX

The renowned Kodak 400TX is a high-speed panchromatic film released in 1954 for 35mm and 120mm format. Perfect for scenarios that require good DOF and fast shutter speeds. It is idyllic for push processing and for extending the distance range for flash pictures.

TX stands for Tri-X, and remains till these days among the fastest black and white films. This emulsion allows maximum pushability while its wide exposure latitude allows leverage even in the most challenging lighting situations and results in a rich tonality maintained with overexposure and underexposure. Its speed is ideal to capture softly lighted subjects or fast action. The high sharpness makes it a good choice for applications that require a reasonable degree of enlargement. This classic film possesses a grain structure that enhances realism and at the same time an edge of contrast that adds a theatrical touch.
The TX is famous for being one of the most popular films among photojournalists.

I’ve chosen this film for a specific location, an old shipyard. The place is a dusty environment filled with luminosity contrasts, I found it appropriated to get the results that I had in mind. To emphasize the crude appearance and capture the place has I see it colours were not important I wanted to keep the atmosphere with an abandoned spirit. Having that in mind I used a 35mm film in my Diana F+, exposing the entire range film.
Nevertheless the results were not really what I expected since I found some difficulties with the light.

Definitely it’s a film to try out! You can find it in 24 and 36 exposure rolls.
