First Impressions with the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System: Lorenzo Scudiero

Lorenzo Scudiero is a 20-year-old photographer, born and raised in the beautiful Italian mountains. Lorenzo began his photographic journey a few years ago, when he started capturing his friends and telling their stories, all surrounded by the breathtaking natural landscape of the place he lives in. After graduating from high school, he decided to commit himself full time to photography. Now he studies Direction of Photography at the "Centro Sperimentale Cinematografia" in Rome. We let him use the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System and he delivered stunning results.

What was your first impression upon seeing and holding the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System?

In the beginning, I was a bit surprised and perplexed of a lens made of different pieces: it seems like a puzzle you have to solve and build. After mounting it and seeing the first shots, I immediately changed my mind, as I recognized its potential. In particular, I have been really impressed by its sharpness and from the minimum focal distance of the 35mm and 50mm lenses.

How does the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System fit into your photography style?

When I shoot, I prefer to use a lightweight camera and lens, which are easy to carry around and I feel more comfortable to use. For this reason, I really believe the Convertible Art Lens System met my expectations and needs. I have also really appreciated the mood of the lenses, which I found dreamy and magical: something that helps me in creating the atmosphere I look for in my shots.

Which focal lenses did you use the most?

I really loved the 35mm: it is an all-around focal lens, which fits the most my photography needs. I also used a lot the 50mm, which has allowed me to get closer to my subject in order to focus on their emotions and feelings.

What did you shoot?

I used the Convertible Art Lens System when I got back to my hometown. I went out with my friends to our favorite places in the area, places where I belong to and where I have lovely memories.

Then, I met Giorgia and Giulia, two friends that again I have not seen in a while. We met and really enjoyed chatting about our adventures and projects from the last few months. I decided to shot some portraits of them in my flat, using colored lights to create a really particular atmosphere. For these shots, I used the 35mm lens (f/3.5) and 50mm with f/2.8.

The day after, I met Francesco, a good friend of mine, with whom I have always been sharing my passion for photography. We went to the Garda Lake, where we spent a relaxing afternoon talking about our latest artistic projects.

Which shot is your favorite?

I really love this shot of Giorgia and Giulia. We were listening to the Arctic Monkeys on Soundcloud, but at some point, the playlist completely changed: when we heard the voice of an absolutely off-key singer instead of Alex Turner, we could not stop laughing. I think that this photo really expresses that moment, as it is extremely spontaneous.

Are there any points to keep in mind when using the Neptune Convertible Art Lenses?

With the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System, you have the amazing possibility to comfortably carry with you three lenses and special aperture plates, which you can easily switch in any situation. My suggestion is to take advantage of this system for experimenting as much as possible, creating special effects for your shots and trying out new things. For sure you will end up bringing with you the camera more often. Don't be shy to experiment!
