Lomogon Art Lens: First Impressions by Wilson Lee

Wilson Lee is based in Hong Kong, with a career in banking. Aside from photography, he is interested in blues guitar and Japanese literature. Get to know more about him and his first impressions with the Lomogon 2.5/32 Art Lens.

Hello! Tell us a bit about your photography background.

I had been shooting for 6 years and my photography skills were self-taught.

What would you call your photography style?

I don't really have a particular shooting style, my photography style varies as my photography covers too many different themes and I developed a shooting style for each of them.

What was your first impression upon seeing and holding the Lomogon lens?

The Lomogon Art Lens feel solid on hand and its outlook is just as beautiful as all other Lomography art lenses. The brass look makes it shines on the street.

How does the Lomogon fit into your (photography) style?

The dial aperture system makes it super intuitive to change aperture setting when doing street photography. It also gives perfect circular bokeh because of its nature, which is something tradition blade aperture lenses cannot render. Nevertheless, the unique 32mm focal length provides me with a whole new perspective to explore.

Could you share your best photo taken with the Lomogon and the story behind that shot?

My personal favourite is the cat shots under the "Monster Building" in Hong Kong. I had been chasing her around for a while in order to get the right pose. The sharpness and beautiful bokeh made this a classic example of a Lomogon shot.

Any pointers that one should keep in mind when using the Lomogon?

I will say try to use the lens on analogue camera. You will be surprised by the result of Lomogon in film photos.
